MLive Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa talked to NWS staff this week about how rare Blizzard Warnings are for Michigan. The last time the NWS in Grand Rapids issued a widespread blizzard warning was almost four years ago. For southeast Lower Michigan, a blizzard warning is even more rare. The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to provide additional resources on freeways and other state-plowed roadways this weekend. The department has also started opening service garages to stock snowplows with fresh blades, new tires and salt. The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings for parts of southwest, west central, southern Lower Michigan and eastern Upper Michigan from Thursday night through 7 p.m.
